David Bean joined Parliament Street as Director of Policy in 2016. Since the summer of 2012 he has worked at the House of Commons for the Policy Research Unit (PRU), a team of specialist researchers and communicators dedicated to getting Conservative MPs the information they need in a format they can use. Following a change of career, he began there as an intern and eventually rose to become Deputy Director. His research interests have been broad and varied, but lately he has focused on issues covered by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Before moving to London he spent three years working in Manchester as a project manager at the corporate headquarters of the Co-operative Group, in his spare time cutting his teeth in local politics. He then spent a year back in academia, reading a Masters degree in Ancient History and producing a thesis evaluating the status of Rome as a proto-capitalist economy.
An avid fan of counter-factual (‘alternative’) history, David contributed a chapter to Biteback Publishing’s 2011 volume, Prime Minister Boris and Other Things That Never Happened, considering a hypothetical Hillary Clinton win in the Democratic Party primaries in 2008.
