Cllr Richard Harris – Disabilities Spokesperson

Councillor Richard Harris joined Parliament Street in 2016. Elected as a Councillor in 2015 on Erewash Borough Council, Richard sits on the Scrutiny Committee and the General Purposes Committee providing him with invaluable experience in personnel management and best practice.
Richard has a track record of successfully working with and representing students having served two years as Disabled Students’ Officer at the University of Derby, where he earned his degree in Computer Networks and Enterprise Management. He also organised two consecutive annual Disabled Students Conferences in 2009 and 2010.
He was a co- author and contributor to a research paper in conjunction with the Higher Education Academy and the Equality Challenge Unit; the paper focused on widening participation amongst Disabled Students and involved a group of universities from across the U.K.
He also pioneered and spearheaded a campaign focusing on hidden disability across two years, it focused in its first year on Dyslexia; stress and depression and Irlen Syndrome. In its second year we focused on awareness and recreated the converted ‘five friends’ Video.
