On Tuesday 12th February 2012, Parliament Street held a panel discussion about its recent research paper Fostering Democracy in North Korea by North Korean dissident Kim Joo-Il.

The event was held in Committee Room 16 of the House of Commons and the event was chaired by Parliament Street Deputy Chairman, Cllr. Sophie Shrubsole.

The event was attended by over 40 people.

The panel consisted of:-

Kim Joo-Il – North Korean Dissident

Benedict Rogers – East Asia Team Leader – Christian Solidarity Worldwide

Oliver Lewis –  Journalist who had recently written a profile on North Korean exiles in Britain for the Spectator.

The discussion contained harrowing accounts of life and repression In North Korea, as well as a discussion of how the West should seek to foster democracy there.
