We condemn in the strongest terms the apparent breach of the peace at UWE Bristol this evening where Jacob Rees Mogg MP was due to speak. All citizens of the UK have a right to hear, and be heard. Our Universities are supposed to be bastions of learning and free speech, where ideas are challenged and discussed. Are the events of tonight the kinder gentler politics of the left, or is the reality a culture of cruelty against those who disagree with them?
There is no place for violence and the threat of violence in our Universities or our politics.
We call upon the University and Police to immediately open an investigation into how the masked thugs were able to enter the venue and whether any crimes were committed.
