NEW RESEARCH – Flood Forests

While scientists and policymakers around the world are rightfully focused on the coronavirus, this new research paper started before the crisis, reminds us that other policy problems will still need solutions when normal life returns.

In this research paper, our Director of Policy, Dr. Peter Hill urges the planting of new forests to reduce the incidents of winter flooding in in the UK. These new forests would also soak up Carbon Dioxide and reduce air pollution.

Dr. Hill proposes that the government, free from the limitations of the common agricultural policy, can use a new grant scheme to incentivise and subsidise the creation of these forests. This would be a major infrastructure project unlike any other and will help in the rejuvenation of the nation’s economy when our current crisis has ended.
